The Maritime Museum of British Columbia is a museum located at 744 Douglas St, Victoria, BC V8W 3M6, that engages people in maritime history and culture. It offers exhibits, educational programs, and community-based activities. It also offers research services. The museum’s mission is to help people learn about maritime cultures, history, and technology.

The museum is located in the heart of Victoria, adjacent to the Empress Hotel and the Parliament Buildings. The museum provides a fascinating history of the area, including the impact of voyagers and naval exploration on the region. One example is the St. Peter model that was used by Vitus Bering during his 1741 voyage. Check it out here

The Maritime Museum of British Columbia was founded in 1955 by naval officers. It originally opened on Signal Hill, Esquimalt, British Columbia, and became a non-profit society in 1957. As the mandate expanded to include maritime heritage throughout the Pacific, the museum was relocated to 28 Bastion Square in downtown Victoria. A decade later, the museum incorporated the Maritime Museum of British Columbia Foundation to oversee the museum’s operations.

The Maritime Museum of British Columbia houses a collection of 35,000 artifacts, including 800 models of ships. It also holds a library of 6,000 books, including 200 titles of historical importance. A collection of historic logbooks, naval records, and more than 1800 vessel plans are among the museum’s unique treasures.

The Maritime Museum of British Columbia is a great place for families and those who are interested in maritime history. The museum’s collection includes detailed nine-foot shipbuilder models, maps, navigation instruments, and photographs. There is also a library and research center. The museum also hosts craft workshops, evening talks, and educational programs.

The Museum also has a large collection of historic charts. Its programs are both popular and educational. The museum also offers school programs and outreach programs throughout the year.

On October 23, 2012, the Maritime Museum of British Columbia opened its Guardians of the Coast exhibit. The exhibit celebrated the 50-year history of the Canadian Coast Guard.
