This British Columbia attraction offers overnight accommodations and plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the old batteries and underground bunkers, while adults can learn about the fortress’s history.

Fort Rodd Hill was built in the 19th century as a coastal artillery fort. It was renovated and upgraded during World War II. Then, in 1956, it was declared obsolete. Since then, it has been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. The fort is named for its creator, John Rushley Rodd. Most of the original structures are well preserved, and the site is accessible to visitors.

Fort Rodd Hill is a popular outing with families, and visitors can explore the history of the site by climbing on the guns. The Fisgard Lighthouse is another iconic Victoria photo spot, and the first lighthouse on the west coast of Canada. The Hatley Park National Historic Site also includes the Hatley Castle, a former British colonial residence that was converted into a museum. It also features Italian and Japanese gardens.

Fisgard Lighthouse is located on a rocky promontory off the southeast coast of Vancouver Island. The structure has been on the island since 1860 and is a popular photo opportunity. The lighthouse is also Canada’s oldest lighthouse on the west coast. Originally, the Fisgard Lighthouse protected the Royal Canadian Navy from enemy torpedoes.

Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard LightHouse are accessible and stroller-friendly. They offer an educational experience for families, as well as a fascinating look at Canadian military history. The park is well-maintained and has excellent signage explaining the history of the area. A visit to the lighthouse is a must for military history buffs, as well as for kids. A fantastic read
